The SDCRA has given me so much throughout my 28 years of court reporting, it is time I give back, so I said yes to this president elect thing, so here we go!

I graduated from Stenotype Institute in August of 1989 and moved to Knoxville, TN to work as a freelance reporter. Being a Midwestern girl at heart, I missed the Dakotas (hard to believe I missed the cold, windy winters) so moved back to Fargo and I began working as a freelancer and did that for 5 years. After I had my two boys, I had decided to take time off from reporting (thought I was retired). I moved back to South Dakota, and one day my sister, Shelly Margulies, who works at the US District Clerk of Courts, was working in Federal Court in Aberdeen and she asked me to come have lunch and meet the people at the courthouse. It was there I met Dick Christoffer who was the federal reporter at that time and he gave me the kick and confidence that I needed to re-enter the reporting world, and I’ve been a freelancer in the Aberdeen area ever since 1995.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility that I have with freelancing and the control of my schedule. I have been a freelancer my whole career. I am glad that I didn’t officially retire way back then when my kids were small…I would have never met all of the great members of SDCRA and never would have had the honor of being your president. I will work hard to keep our association strong and successful…and fun!

Thank you for the honor of being the SDCRA president-elect. Let’s make this association and profession flourish together!! I am open to comments, opinions, suggestions, and of course, any help members wish to offer.
